State rests in Michael Dunn case

The state has rested its case in the retrial of Michael Dunn, the man who police said killed Jordan Davis over loud music.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The prosecution in the murder retrial of Michael Dunn -- the man who police said killed unarmed teen Jordan Davis in June 2012 -- has wrapped up its case.

After the State rested the defense called their first witness, a former police detective who said Davis' door was open when the shots were fired.

Michael Knox -- who is also a crime scene reconstruction expert -- said that he is 100 percent certain that the door was open to some extent.

He also said he believes that Davis was partly out of the SUV and the window was down Dunn started to shoot.

Dunn who is accused of murdering Davis is saying he did so in self-defense.

Also on Monday, the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Davis said she believes there is no way Davis could have been out of the SUV when he was shot.

During her testimony, Dr. Stacey Simons said Davis did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system.
