OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Alton Alexander Nolen was charged Tuesday with the first degree murder of a 54-year-old woman at his workplace before stabbing another co-worker.

Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn said he intends to seek capital punishment for Nolen who is suspected to have been inspired by terror groups like the Islamic State, but it is uncertain.

"It is highly likely I will seek the death penalty in this case," he said. He noted he would ask the victim's family first.

Investigators are still looking into his background and have found suspicious activity linked to terrorism. It is posited he was radicalized in prison. His Facebook page bears the name Jah'Keem Yisrael and has pictures of fighters holding weapons and posts linked to terrorist groups.

"That investigation is still ongoing, and it is unclear at this time whether the crime was an act of terrorism, workplace violence or a gruesome combination of both," said Gov. Mary Fallin.

Nolen has been previously convicted of assault and battery on a police officer, escape from detention and possession of marijuana.
