BELL GARDENS, Calif., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Bell Gardens, Calif., said on Tuesday the mayor of the Los Angeles suburb -- Daniel Crespo -- was shot and killed during an alleged domestic dispute.
According to investigators, he was shot in his home Tuesday afternoon.
He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Nicole Nishida -- a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department -- said the mayor and his wife were having an argument that turned violent.
It was at that point investigators said Crespo's wife shot him several times.

"Early information we have is that a struggled ensued between Daniel Sr. and Daniel Jr. Ultimately, the wife, Levette, produced a firearm and shot her husband multiple times."
The events leading up to the shooting are still under investigation.
