Lewis, 33, admitted to abducting Carter after his arrest, but did not confess to her murder or tell police about the location of her body. He was in a car accident Sunday, but was able to slip out of the hospital before police could arrest him. He was taken into custody on Monday.

Lewis will appear in court Tuesday where he will face a capital murder charge along with his previous kidnapping charge. He is being held on $1 million bond.

Carter, 49, is survived by her husband of 30 years, two sons and four grandchildren.
