John Oliver slams Obama administration for hawkish drone policy

Oliver says Americans ignore U.S. drone policy for the same reasons they don't talk about the fact that renowned artist and musician Beck is a Scientologist -- denial and apathy.

NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Despite the increasingly common presence of drones, comedic journalist John Oliver had harsh words for President Obama's international drone policy and what he sees as its ambiguous lack of accountability.

"We've all seen them," noted Oliver on Sunday's edition of Last Week Tonight. The HBO host was not specifically alluding to drones, but analogizing their place in the public consciousness with Harvey Keitel's frequently exposed testicles.

"And from, from a distance you think, 'Well, I understand the contours of those.' But if you were to really examine them, you'd discover that they're actually lost in a haze of fuzziness and gray areas. Much like the rules for our drone strikes."

As for why the American people choose to ignore something they're so casually familiar with, Oliver says it's not unlike when someone reminds you that Beck is a Scientologist, "You don't want people reminding you about those kind of things."
