Suspect in UVA student disappearance caught in Texas

The suspect in Hannah Graham's disappearance, Jesse Matthews was caught Wednesday in Galveston, Texas.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Police in Charlottesville, Va. announced a major break Wednesday in the disappearance of missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham: the suspect, Jesse Matthews has been caught.

Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo said Matthews was apprehended in Galveston, Texas.

The arrest comes a day after police issued a warrant for Matthews on a charge of abduction with intent to defile.

Matthews is now waiting extradition back to Virgina.

Deputies with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office are being credited with the arrest.

Longo said that even though Matthews was arrested, there is "still a long road ahead of us."

During a brief news conference, Longo promised more information about the arrest would come once Matthews is back in Virginia.

He did plea for any information to help authorities find the 18-year-old student. A reward for information is up to $100,000.

An intensive search for Graham has been underway for the past 10 days, when she was last seen leaving a party.
