JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Three days after it began, a 12-member jury -- as well as four alternates -- were seated Wednesday afternoon to hear the retrial of Michael Dunn.

Dunn is being retried after a jury in February 2014 could not reach a verdict on one charge: if Dunn killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis in June 2012.

Opening statements were expected to get underway Thursday afternoon.

Eight of the jurors are men and four are women. Ten of the jurors are white, two are black.

Circuit Court Judge Judge Russell Healey said most of the jury members know something about the case and the February trial that ended in a hung jury on the murder charge.

However, Healey is confident they will be able to make an impartial verdict based on the evidence they will be hearing in this case.

All 16 men and women will be kept sequestered during the trial.

Dunn claims he shot Davis in self-defense after seeing what he thought was a shotgun.

Police never found a shotgun in the vehicle Davis was in or around it.
