Five men escape jail near Fresno, Calif.

Five inmates escaped from Madera County Jail in California Friday night, one of whom was jailed for attempted murder.

FRESNO, Calif., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Five inmates considered armed and dangerous escaped from Madera County (Calif.) Jail on Friday night, the sheriff's office said.

The Madera County Sheriff's Office initially reported one inmate, Juan Lopez, 33, had escaped. He was in jail for armed robbery and attempted murder, a Facebook post by the MCSO said.

By Saturday morning, the Madera Police Department said five total men, all gang members, were on the loose.

The other four men were identified as Abel Ramos, 25; Ricardo Cendejas, 19; Roel Soliz, 29; and Jorge Lopez-Diaz, 26.

Authorities were encouraging anyone who thinks they see the men to call 911.
