NEW YORK, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- The wife of a CBS executive was critically injured when she was hit by a cyclist as she crossed a roadway in New York's Central Park.

Jill Tarlov, 59, who lives in Fairfield, Conn., with her husband, Michael Wittman, was on a ventilator Friday at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

The bicyclist, Jason Marshall, 31, was released without charges, but police said the investigation is still underway. Marshall was on the West Drive on Thursday afternoon when he swerved from the bike lane to avoid pedestrians and hit Tarlov, who was in the crosswalk.

Witnesses said Tarlove apparently did not hear Marshall when he called out to her to watch out. Police said they were unsure Friday who had the right of way.

Cyclists in Central Park have a 25-mph speed limit. They are also legally required to obey stop signs and red lights.

Tarlov was knocked down and hit her head. Marshall, a musician who lives in Manhattan, was also injured.

"She was my wife. She was the best," Wittman said
