AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Searchers found a Texas sheriff's deputy's patrol car shortly after she radioed that she was caught by flood waters, but no sign of the missing woman.

The car was underwater when it was discovered shortly after 2 a.m., Thursday, a spokesman for the Travis County sheriff said. The water dropped quickly, revealing the deputy was not inside.

Dogs, helicopters, boats and about 90 people searched the banks of Bear Creek and Lake Austin on Thursday until about 5 p.m. when severe thunderstorms hit the area. About 80 people combed the area Friday morning.

The deputy's name had not been released Friday morning. She was described as a seven-year veteran of the department and a member of the dive team.

"It's extremely difficult," sheriff's spokesman Roger Wade said Thursday. "We've got guys who just had breakfast with her, and it's rough. We're professionals, and we'll get through it. And we'll keep searching until we find something."

The deputy was checking on a low-water crossing in western Travis County when she radioed for help.
