The precious pooch is the center of attention, after being injured during a high-speed chase in South Los Angeles.

The dog was walking on a residential street Wednesday night when he was hit by a van. The van -- that had been reported stolen -- had just spun out after losing two tires when a police cruiser performed a PIT maneuver.

After being hit, Gordo was rushed to ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital in Culver City, Calif., where he remains hospitalized.

On Thursday, Dr. Erich Stumpp said, Gordo's "Been very cooperative and ... very gentle with the technicians despite all these injuries."

The poor pup has fractures to his right hip and femur, as well as a cut deep into his muscle on the back of one of his legs.

Stumpp said it's looking like Gordo may have to have his leg amputated.

Thousands of dollars have been contributed to help Gordo's vet bills by people who called the animal hospital after #savethewhitedog started trending on social media.
