Pregnant woman chases thief, then gives birth

Mark Newton was arrested for trying to steal a pregnant woman's purse, but failed when she refused to become a victim.

FLINT, Mich., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A pregnant woman denied a would-be purse-snatcher his prize in Michigan, chasing after him until help came.

The unnamed woman was putting groceries into her car at a Kroger's in Flint last Thursday afternoon when an unarmed man grabbed her bag.

According to the Flint police, the woman chased after the thief and confronted him. He shoved her down, but two people nearby stopped him and took her purse back. The thief continued to run, but the woman's family were able to hold him until police arrived.

Later that day, the woman safely delivered her baby.

According to Flint District Court records, Mark Newton, 30, was arrested and charged with one count of unarmed robbery. He is expected to have his preliminary hearing on September 24, and is being held on $8,000 bond.
