New York state may legalize recreational marijuana by next year

The state of New York could be legalize marijuana for recreational use in 2015.

ALBANY, Neb., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- New York state could soon be the next state to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

The move could come as early as 2015.

According to the Huffington Post, state Senator Liz Krueger will reintroduce he Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act during the next legislative session in January.

The bill would allow the opening of retail dispenseries which would be regulated by the State Liquor Authority. In addition, it would establish an excise tax on all marijuana sales.

Adults would legally be able to possess up to two ounces of marijuana and grow as many as six plants at home for personal use.

In July, New York became the 23rd state to legalize medicinal marijuana -- but only in smokeless forms.

It was more than 30 years ago, the state decriminalized the possession of up to 25 grams of marijuana.
