Shirt of Navy SEAL who killed bin Laden to be 9/11 Memorial Museum display

On May 2, 2011, al-Qaida chief and 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden was killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The shirt of the man who fired the three fatal shots will now be preserved and put on display as a symbol of justice for the thousands of people killed on 9/11.

NEW YORK, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The shirt of the member of SEAL Team 6 who killed al-Qaida head Osama bin Laden will be on public display in the 9/11 Memorial Museum starting Sunday.

The shirt will not bear a name, as the identities of the members of the elite squad are classified for national security and safety reasons. The SEAL in question is now retired but still preserves his anonymity.

"This shirt is a symbol of the bravery of the US Navy SEAL Team 6, who risked their lives," said Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., who facilitated the procurement of the item. "It's important that they tell the entire story, not just the story of the 9/11 attacks."

The former SEAL has had trouble finding employment since returning home and retiring from the Navy. In an interview with Esquire in 2013, he said he remembered penning a letter to his family before the raid, knowing it was likely he would not survive the mission.

Next Friday will mark the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York, Washington D.C. and the crash of the diverted plane in Pennsylvania.
