HOUSTON, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A homeless man sleeping at a Houston strip mall was shot and killed early Wednesday by a security guard he allegedly assaulted, police said.
The guard called police after he saw the man asleep at the Northline Mall shortly before 3 a.m. and then tried to wake him up. Police said that after officers arrived the man first attacked a police officer and then the security guard.

The guard shot the man. He died a short time later at Ben Taub General Hospital.
Police said the shooting has been classified as an in-custody death.
