WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The National Rifle Association has launched an ad campaign telling former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to "keep your hands off our guns."

The campaign is a response to Bloomberg's own efforts to support political candidates who support gun regulation. Bloomberg pledged $50 million earlier this year to build a network of gun control activists.

"Michael Bloomberg has declared war on the NRA and our 5 million members," Chris Cox, executive director of the group's Institute for Legislative Action, told USA Today in an e-mail. "We will not sit back and let him use his billions of dollars to impose his radical anti-freedom agenda on the American people."

The first commercial links Bloomberg's stand on guns with his efforts as mayor to ban the sale of large sugary sodas and other anti-obesity measures. It is titled "Insult."

"Bloomberg tries to ban your snack food, your sodas and most of all, your guns," a woman says in voiceover.

The visuals show a woman at the wheel of a pickup truck.

"Hey, Bloomberg: Keep your politics in New York. And keep your hands off our guns and our freedom," the narrator concludes.

The NRA says it will aim its multi-million-dollar campaign mostly at states where U.S. Senate seats are up for grabs this year.
