WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Former NBC Meet the Press anchor David Gregory was reportedly given $4 million to prevent him from speaking out against the network upon his dismissal.

Gregory was fired from the show and replaced with Chuck Todd after ratings tanked during Gregory's tenure. Gregory announced his departure from the show with a message thanking NBC for his time with the company.

Page Six reports that along with payment for the rest of his contracted term, Gregory received $4 million to sign a non-disparagement clause. That may explain his Twitter message, but other sources told the gossip column that Gregory was "angry and humiliated" by the situation.

It is rumored that the moderator may be given his own show on CNN or take over as the host of Crossfire.
