HYANNISPORT, Mass., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- President Obama isn't having the most relaxing vacation at Martha's Vineyard this summer, but he was just dared to undertake a physical challenge he can meet quite easily.
After all, an 86-year-old woman just did it.
Ethel Kennedy, widow of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, nominated President Obama to take the Ice Bucket Challenge in support of research and awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Members of the Kennedy family were at their Hyannisport compound when they shot a video that started with Max Kennedy dousing himself and ended with the elder Kennedy getting soaked.
"Welcome to Cape Cod, President Obama. I nominate you," she said in a video posted on Facebook.
In the past 10 days the ALS Association has raised at least $160,000, more than 10 times the amount raised last summer during the same time period..
"The ALS Association just couldn't be happier with the visibility that this is bringing to our disease, ALS, and the ALS movement," ALSA president Barbara Newhouse told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. "This money means a lot to our research program. It also means a lot in the chapters to the day-to-day care of those living with ALS."
