DREXEL HILL, Pa., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia-area man killed his wife early Thursday in front of their two sons, took off with the boys and then took his own life in New York City, police said.

The boys were reported to be safe. But Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said there was no doubt they had witnessed the death of their mother, Christine Belajonas, 28, who was found shot and stabbed in the family's apartment in Drexel Hill.

One boy was "talking about daddy killing mommy," Chitwood said.

Police responding to a report of gunshots found Christine Belajonas's body at about 2 a.m. Five hours later, police in Staten Island found Keith Belajonas, 32, in his Nissan Pathfinder, dead from a gunshot to the head.

In between, Belajonas allegedly held up a CVS drugstore in Staten Island, where his brother worked. He left the boys there and took off with cash, cigarettes and beer at about 5:30 a.m.

Police also got a phone call from a friend who said Belajonas had posted a message about a fight with his wife on Facebook and that "he won," Chitwood said. Belajonas said in the post that his wife was cheating on him.

While detectives were headed to Staten Island to talk to the two sons, Chitwood said the case "is closed."
