NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- A New York woman victimized by purse theft used her mobile banking app to track the thief's movements before restraining him in a subway station in July.

According to police, the 25-year-old woman was eating at a Wendy's in Greenwich Village just before 4 p.m. on July 17, when Cory White grabbed her wallet from the condiments counter where she had left it accidentally.

White was long gone by the time the woman realized her wallet was missing. However, using her bank's mobile app, she was able to track White's rapid spending spree.

After White spent $46 at a liquor store, the 35-year-old headed to a nearby Journeys location to treat himself to a $109 worth of sneakers. The quick-thinking woman ran over to the Journeys when it showed up on her statement and discovered White was still there.

Recognizing the woman, White ran away, attempting to flee onto a southbound R train. The woman continued her pursuit, physically restraining White even after he elbowed her in the face.

Nearby officers heard the woman's screams and broke up the struggle, arresting White.

He is charged with robbery and grand larceny.
