Embassy workers file lawsuit alleging CNN correspondent Arwa Damon bit them while drunk

NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Two workers at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad have filed a lawsuit in New York County Supreme Court alleging that a CNN correspondent delivered some hard-biting journalism while she was on the grounds reporting.

According to the plaintiff's suit, Arwa Damon was "seriously intoxicated" and bit them while they were administering emergency medical services to her.

Charles Simons and Tracy Lamar named CNN and Damon as defendants and they are seeking punitive damages of less than $1 million, according to Courthouse News.

Simons and Lamar allege that "Damon has a history of becoming intoxicated and then abusive" and that she has a "penchant for violence even when sober."

The plaintiffs claim Damon sank her teeth into each of their forearms.

"She was biting them both pretty furiously. She has good teeth," David Jaroslawicz, an attorney for Simons and Lamar, told the New York Daily News. "Eventually they subdued her."

Damon apologized to U.S. Embassy staff members via email.

"It's been an extremely stressful time, I was exhausted, I had not had proper food all day and clearly miscalculated how my body would handle the alcohol consumed," Damon wrote in her email. "Needless to say, I am utterly mortified and take full responsibility for my actions, which are inexcusable."

Jaroslawicz plans on using the email as evidence for the lawsuit.
