Romney insiders to 'Draft Mitt' campaign: Not happening

"Mitt is not supporting this ... [Draft Mitt] has no merit," says Romney camp.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- A group hoping to urge failed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to run again in 2016 must overcome one key critic in order to achieve its goal -- Mitt Romney himself.

Created by Utah Republican State Chairman James Evans, Draft Mitt gathers signatures and posts Romney news to its Facebook page, hoping to scream loud enough into the echo chamber to create future momentum for the unwilling former candidate.

"We don't need the permission of the draftee," Evans told Fox News' Neil Cavuto. "We will put together enough momentum where the draftee then feels compelled to then step forward, so that's our motivation."

The problem is, according to Romney's former finance chairman and "sixth son" Spencer Zwick, "Mitt is not supporting this."

"This organization has absolutely no bearing on Mitt Romney running for president. He says he's not running for president and nothing this organization can do will change that ... The organization has no merit. None," Zwick told the Deseret News.
