GOP congressman accuses Dems of wagaing a "war on whites"

WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- In an apparent attempt to play off a common criticism of the GOP's platforms on women's rights, Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., defended his party's hard-line immigration stance by accusing Democrats of waging a "war on whites."

Appearing on Wednesday's episode of the Laura Ingraham Show, Brooks was asked to respond to comments made by Ron Fournier of the National Journal where he noted "the fastest growing voting bloc in this country [Hispanics] thinks the Republican Party hates them.

The conservative congressman wrote off Fournier's warning, saying, "This is a part of the war on whites that's being launched by the Democratic Party. The way in which they're launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else."

"It's part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008, continued in 2012, where he divides us all on race, on sex, greed, envy, class warfare, all those kinds of things," he continued.

Ingraham, a vocal conservative, called Fournier's assessment "a little out there."
