Passengers of Norwegian Air flight DY7096 had successfully boarded Wednesday night, but attempts to fix a technical issue forced the plane to sit on the tarmac for four hours before the nearly 300 passengers were told to return to the terminal.
"In the end they said they couldn't do it," Kevin Webber of Bristol, England explainedto NBC Los Angeles . "They got everybody off the plane and back into the airport to sleep, because there's no hotels apparently."
Indeed, despite reimbursement offers from Norwegian Air, most of the hotels near LAX were full Wednesday night and, as the flight was bound for London, most of the passengers had nowhere to go.
"We've got no real plans, we're in the hands of the company and the airport. We can't drive home, it's too far to England."
Although inconvenient, an extended flight delay is hardly unheard of. But this delay is seeming to never end -- Norwegian Air first promised take off at 8 p.m. Thursday, issued a one-hour delay, and finally canceled the flight again.
Passengers say they had to wait two hours to retrieve their bags for makeshift bedding.
The flight was eventually rescheduled for 9 a.m. local time Friday morning. It has been delayed three hours.
Norwegian Air has not publicly commented on the situation.
