CHERITON, Va., July 24 (UPI) -- At least two people were killed Thursday morning when a possible tornado struck a campground on the Eastern Shore in Virginia, state police said.
The storm injured at least 20 people at the Cherrystone Campground in Cheriton. Police responded to reports that a tree came down on a tent and high winds blew camping vehicles over.
A tractor-trailer overturned nearby on Route 13, the main north-south highway in Delmarva Peninsula.
The storm hit the area near the peninsula's southern tip with high winds, heavy rain, and hail witnesses described as being the size of golf balls.
"Debris was flying down the street -- our chairs, beach balls. We lost power," said Linda Wenners Zaremski, who lives in Marina Villages in Cape Charles.
