NEW YORK, July 24 (UPI) -- A lottery-winning police officer in New York claims a carnival fortuneteller told her long ago that her numbers would be drawn someday.

Edna Aguayo, a 20-year police veteran who retired in 2011, is New York's first daily Cash4Life winner, winning $1,000 a day for the rest of her life.

"I knew I'd win one day, I just didn't know when," Aguayo told the New York Post.

Aguayo says in 1998 she visited a psychic at an amusement park and the psychic not only predicted her eventual victory, but even what game it would be in.

"I was in an amusement park and went to see a reader. She told me to buy 'for life' lottery tickets because she could see that one day I was going to hit a 'for life' prize."

Since then, the Queens resident diligently purchased weekly Cash4Life tickets every Monday and Thursday. Earlier this year, New York joined the multi-state daily Cash4Life drawing, significantly raising Aguayo's potential jackpot.

"I thought I would win the second prize. I didn't think I was ever going to win the top prize."

But on July 14, lottery officials drew 9-19-34-37-49 and Cash Ball 2 -- Aguayo's exact numbers -- and the fortune tellers prediction came through.

All told, Aguayo will be awarded $227,410 a year after taxes, for the remainder of her life.
