MORRISTOWN, N.J., July 23 (UPI) -- The New Jersey teenager who made headlines by suing her parents for child support is back in court and has obtained a restraining order against her boyfriend.

Rachel Canning and boyfriend Lucas Kitzmiller, both 18, got into a fight shortly after midnight Saturday into Sunday that allegedly ended with Kitzmiller choking Canning.

Canning fled the scene and drove to local police headquarters where she filed a domestic violence complaint against Kitzmiller.

When Canning sued her parents for not supporting the teen after kicking her out of their home, one reason cited for home explusion was Kitzmiller -- Canning's parents said she was not allowed to return home until the two stopped dating.

The Cannings reconciled -- a judge ruled against Rachel and the teen moved home -- but she continued to date Kitzmiller.

"She has repaired her relationship with us," Sean Canning told the Daily Record.

"She went off the deep end in the past but things are good now. We said to her 'Listen, you're an adult. You make your own choices.'"

When asked about his daughter's latest troubles, Sean Canning told the New Jersey Star-Ledger he's "confident the court will handle it appropriately" and would prefer the family be left alone
