SEDONA, Ariz., July 21 (UPI) -- Six people were killed in Arizona Sunday in separate plane crashes, one of which sparked a wildfire in Coconino National Forest.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed that at roughly 7:30 p.m. local time they responded to reports of a small plane crash near the Arizona-Utah border
"A person was trapped under the engine and (we) could not locate another person at the time." Sgt. John T. Bottoms told local reporters. "A piece to the nose was about 100 feet from the rest of the crash and was mangled."
Bottoms said that two people were dead but gave no information about their identities.
Earlier Sunday another small plane crashed halfway down the state in Sedona, Ariz., killing four people and starting a large, ongoing, wildfire.
"Initial attempts to locate a downed planed were unsuccessful, even by flyover," confirmed the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office in an official statement. "Witnesses believe the fire resulted from the plane crash although they did not have a line of sight view."
Authorities are currently withholding the identities of the victims of that crash. Roughly 30 responders were on the scene in Coconino National Forest Monday fighting the active wildfire.
