KATY, Texas, July 14 (UPI) -- A man who allegedly killed his girlfriend in the New Orleans area was arrested in Katy, Texas, after one of his children called a friend, police said.

Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas, 43, of Metairie, La., and his three children were at a trailer park, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said in a statement released early Monday. Monterroso-Navas was arrested, while the children -- aged 2, 4 and 12 -- were placed in the care of Texas child welfare officials.

Jefferson Parish investigators said the body of Monterroso-Navas's girlfriend was discovered early Sunday in a bathtub in their Metairie apartment.

One of the children called a friend from the trailer park, police said. The friend's mother dialed 911 and informed police of the family's whereabouts.
