SAN ANTONIO, July 14 (UPI) --
U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl completed counseling at a hospital in San Antonio, Texas, and is expected to return to active duty as soon as Monday, defense officials said.
Bergdahl, who was held captive by the Taliban for five years, was released from the Brooke Army Medical Center last month after undergoing medical treatment. He was considered an outpatient at the facility for counseling and debriefing.
Defense Department officials said he will take a job at the Army North headquarters at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
As part of the reintegration process, Bergdahl will live in barracks and two soldiers will help him readjust.
Bergdahl was released from captivity six weeks ago in exchange for the United States releasing five senior Taliban detainees from Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
