Missing North Carolina woman faces litany of felony charges

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., July 8 (UPI) -- Authorities around Myrtle Beach are searching for a missing North Carolina woman both because she has not been seen since the weekend and because there is a warrant for her arrest.

Amy Arrington of Gastonia was last seen Saturday when she and her husband visited North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. According to her husband, the two were on the beach when Arrington got up from the spot they camped out to go swimming. Twenty minutes later when he got up to join her, she was missing.

Arrington's disappearance is attracting extra attention from law enforcement because she was due to appear in court Monday to stand trial as a repeat felon. She is currently being charged with identity theft and forgery, among other fraudulent activities.

Prosecutors had flown in out-of-state witnesses to testify against Arrington and, regardless of circumstances, were forced to issue an arrest warrant due to her failure to appear. Since 1992, Arrington has been charged with credit card theft, larceny, financial card fraud, identity fraud/theft and fraudulent property/services. She has served over three years in prison.

Arrington was originally due in court in May but failed to appear, providing a note from the emergency room.

Authorities describe Arrington as 5' 2" weighing roughly 130 pounds with small tattoos on each of her wrists.
