While interviewing author Sylvia Ann Hewlett about her book Executive Presence, the producers of the morning show ran a graphic that read "Do: Wear...well-cut jeans with a colorful top" and "Don't: Raise your voice under pressure." The tips appeared under the text "Female Do's & Don'ts" and next to a pink female restroom symbol.
Later in the segment, co-host Brian Kilmeade highlighted Hewlett's advice on tonal inflection.
"Also a little thing that you think is important is your presentation and your voice. Keep it low, don't speak loud."
Co-host Steve Doocy quickly qualified Kilmeade's statement, adding "For women," but Hewlett said men make similar mistakes.
When Hewlett said men need to do a better job relating to women in the workplace, Bilmeade said the way to do this was to assert masculinity.
"Right, so show that you're in touch with your emotions, but at the same time, show you're really a man."
