NEW YORK, July 2 (UPI) -- New York City is under a flash flood warning as a severe summer storm pounds the entire metro area.

All five boroughs are effected by the warnings, with the National Weather Service warning, "Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. "

"Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road."

Earlier today as the storm system moved in, lightning touched down in the city, a rare sight that was caught by amateur photographers around the city.
