Humorous ad uses sex toys to encourage gun safety

SEATTLE, June 26 (UPI) -- A new PSA released Thursday from gun safety group Evolve depicts two mothers reacting to their young sons sword fighting with one of the mother's sex toys during a play-date.

"If they find it, they'll play with it," says the narrator. "So always lock up your guns."

Evolve is an organization dedicated to reducing gun violence while remaining politically neutral on the topic of gun control.

"We don't think that safety's a side. Safety in the gun category should be inspiring, people should be inspired to make good choices, and safety should be cool," Evolve co-founder Rebecca Bond told the Huffington Post.

The racy PSA reminds parents to keep guns out of children's reach, especially going into the summer season when sleepovers and play-dates are more frequent, when curious kids in unfamiliar homes might find hidden firearms.

Bond points out that parents often ask about other safety concerns like allergies, whether pools are fenced in, whether cars have car seats, but often fail to discuss whether there are firearms in the house.

"Our PSA is humorous, but the message is serious. Parents need to take ownership of safety in the house. If you don't want kids to play with it, put it away -- it's up to you to keep your stuff locked up," Bond said in a statement.

"We're using humor to cut through political correctness and deliver a simple message," she added. "Americans can have a serious conversation about firearm safety that doesn't devolve into a political abyss."

"Guns are a part of America, from the shot heard round the world to present days. How do we as a country begin a productive conversation that protects gun rights, but gives equal consideration to the moral responsibilities that come with those rights?" Evolve's website asks.

It might take America a while to answer that question, but in the meantime, don't forget to find a better hiding place for sex toys and six-shooters.
