SEATTLE, June 25 (UPI) -- Nancy Fredrickson, a 70-year-old woman from Seattle, is lucky that not everyone knows how to drive a stick shift.
Fredrickson went to retrieve something from the trunk of her car on Saturday when three teens approached her with a gun.
She dropped her keys on the ground but when they hopped in the car, she said one of the suspects couldn't get it to run.
"I got a five speed in there," Fredrickson told KIRO. "They couldn't figure out how to get it going!"
Fredrickson, who happens to be a black belt in martial arts, calmly watched as the teens tried to steal her Kia.
"You learn that if someone is trying, the best thing you can do is be still. And it's not easy for me to be still at times, but in that situation yes," she told KOMO.
The trio eventually gave up and fled on foot.
