TAMPA, Fla., June 21 (UPI) -- Look out Amazon, the libraries at the University of South Florida now have two drones available to be checked out by students.

The library system purchased two 5-pound drones with part of a $75,000 grant it received for a digital renovation project. The drones cost $1,500 apiece, and the rest of the money is going toward additional computers and other resources, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Come this fall, students who take a training class and pass a test will be able to check out the flying, whirling things as long as they have a specific research plan.

"The education potential is limitless," said Nancy Cunningham, the director of academic services at the libraries.

Maryellen Allen, assistant director of the libraries, said students could use the drones to fly over contaminated terrains, scout out possible building sites and fly into buildings to check out flaws.

"It offers a whole new perspective," she said.
