Turhan Robinson, 37, who was arrested in Las Vegas, was being returned to Illinois by a private inmate transportation service when he got loose at about 2 a.m. in Wheat Ridge, a Denver suburb. He was recaptured at about 1 p.m. in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Robinson and an accomplice allegedly killed another man while trying to steal his marijuana on May 19 in Madison County in southern Illinois.
Police in Wheat Ridge used the reverse 911 system to alert area residents of the escape and advise them to keep their doors and windows locked.
Robinson, who was in handcuffs and had a shackle on one leg, managed to get loose during a bathroom break, authorities said. A woman walking her dog near the cemetery called police to report seeing him.
