RIVERSIDE, Calif., June 16 (UPI) -- A California woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after she allegedly ran over her father and killed him when he attempted to stop her from driving while drunk.

Soukvilay Barton allegedly struck her 69-year-old father, Bounmy Rajsombath, with her BMW convertible and inflicted fatal injuries.

The deadly accident occurred on Friday night after Barton had been drinking and fighting with family members at a home in Riverside.

Barton hit Rajsombath with the car while he was standing behind the vehicle to prevent her from driving drunk. Rajsombath died after being taken to Riverside Community Hospital.

The 37-year-old has also been charged with gross vehicle manslaughter.

"He was a person that everybody loved," Rajsombath's son-in-law told the Press Enterprise. "He was a very respected man in the Laos community. I'm very sad. I'm sick."
