NEW YORK, June 12 (UPI) -- Fox and Friends co-host Steve Doocy said Thursday that the U.S. should arm the Iraqis to help regain control of their cities from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The debate on whether to send aid to Iraq became rapidly heated as ISIS advances their control over the country. Many Americans are weary of getting involved in the conflict since the U.S. only pulled troops out of Iraq in 2011. One of the most vocal entities on the subject is Fox News.
On Wednesday, Megyn Kelly, host of The Kelly File, said that the surge of violence is is due to "a vacuum left by America's commander-in-chief." Kelly also commented to her guest Jack Keane, the former vice chief of staff of the U.S. Army, that "People like you were jumping up and down saying we will lose it all if we don't handle this differently."
Doocy said that the U.S. should, "Give them some drones!" before using the segue, "So we're not helping the Iraqis but we are helping illegals get into this country."
According to the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) signed with Iraq under the Bush administration in 2008, the U.S. could not stay in Iraq past the 2011 withdrawal date. The Iraqi government chose not to modify the date and did not extend authority for U.S. presence in the country.
