LOGAN CITY, Utah, June 11 (UPI) -- Police in Logan City, Utah, arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly chained his 6-year-old son to a bed while he went to work Tuesday.

Sammie Lee Hodges faces four counts of child abuse after police found the boy shackled to a bed. Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen said the department received an anonymous call about the child.

"The child was physically chained to a what I would call a metal pedestal, which holds a box spring and a mattress," Jensen said.

To reach the boy, police climbed into an open window. They found him with snacks, water and enough length of chain to make it to a bathroom.

"It was a heavy logging style, towing style chain, it was a heavy chain padlocked on each end," Jensen said.

Neighbor Ike Buckley said Hodges lived in the home with a woman and four total children, all about 10 years old or younger. He said the children didn't appear to be abused.

Hodges was booked into Cache County Jail. The Department of Child and Family Services took custody of the boy.
