LOS ANGELES, June 10 (UPI) -- An ex-con charged with stalking faced a long list of charges after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase across Los Angeles.
Nolan Perez, 41, was arrested Monday afternoon after police used tear gas to drive him from a house in North Hollywood where he took refuge after ditching his car. Police Lt. Andy Neiman said a gun was found in the house after Perez was in custody.
Police said Perez took off Monday morning when officers attempted to arrest him on charges of making threats and stalking a woman. The officers saw him near the woman's house.
Perez took to the freeways, hitting speeds of 100 mph or more. Police said he threatened pursuers with a gun that appeared to be an AR-15.
After Perez found his bolthole, police shut down the street. Schools in the area went on lockdown.
Perez emerged after police threw tear gas grenades into the house. He was compliant, lying down to be handcuffed.
According to court records, Perez has convictions for domestic violence and for possession of a weapon by a felon.
