PORTSMOUTH, Va., June 6 (UPI) -- A member of the United States Navy was stabbed near Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., and the facility has been put on lockdown.

According to local media, the soldier was stabbed Friday morning in front of the facility's Navy Exchange. The medical center has been put on lockdown, with no staff or service members allowed to enter or exit.

Portsmouth police are searching for a white male, approximately 165 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes, wearing tan cargo pants and a white shirt.

The facility is operating under a "Code White" alert, which means there is a shooter on the premises. There is no shooter in this scenario; rather police are searching for an individual wielding a knife.

Despite the ongoing manhunt and lockdown, the victim is being treated on the premises with critical injuries.
