MAHOPAC, N.Y., May 14 (UPI) -- A New York school board president has resigned following video surfacing online of him calling one local mother "chubby wubby," and adding "she gets fatter and and fatter at every meeting."

The Journal News reports that Ray Cote's resignation was announced during Tuesday night's meeting of the Mahopac Board of Education.

Parents already knew of Cote's resignation, as he sent an email to the community explaining that his words don't reflect his thoughts.

"I would like to apologize for my choice of words after the close of the board meeting on April 8, 2014, which are regretful," Cote's email read. "My words were inappropriate and do not reflect my feelings or attitudes. I will strive to regain the trust and respect of the community."

The Mahopac board of education acknowledged Cote's apology in a statement, but still accepted his resignation:

"The Mahopac Board of Education acknowledges the apology of board President Raymond Cote regarding his comments after the close of the board meeting on April 8, 2014. We are disappointed by and do not condone this lapse in judgment on the part of Mr. Cote. The Board of Education expects all of its members and meeting participants and attendees to act in a respectful manner. It is our commitment to move forward as a community in a positive manner and focus on the education of our children."
