Singer Chris Brown admits violating probation by hitting man, sentenced to 131 days in jail

LOS ANGELES, May 9 (UPI) -- Grammy winning R&B singer Chris Brown, infamous for savagely beating the pop-star Rihanna—his then-girlfriend—hours before the 2009 Grammy awards, admitted to violating his probation during a court appearance today and was sentenced to additional jail time.

Brown was involved in altercation last October outside a hotel in Washington, D.C., where the singer faces misdemeanor assault charges after a man accused Brown of striking him.

Brown, arrested after being dismissed from a court-ordered rehab sentence, has been in custody since mid-March.

Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin sentenced Brown to a year in county jail, but gave credit for good behavior and time served, including rehab. The singer faces an additional 131 days behind bars.

Brandlin also ordered that Brown will complete the remainder of his 1,000 hours of community labor once he is released and will remain on probation until Jan 31 of next year, assuming he can stay out of trouble until then.
