WASHINGTON, May 9 (UPI) -- A new WSJ/NBC News poll shows that Barbara Bush and Hillary Clinton tie for the spot of the country's favorite first lady over the past 25 years.
The poll featured the last four first ladies, creating a split group of two Democrats and two Republicans. This includes First Ladies Barbara Bush, 1989-1993, Hillary Clinton 1993-2001, Laura Bush, 2001-2009 and Michelle Obama, 2009-present.
Barbara Bush tied with Hillary Clinton for the top spot with 27 percent each. Current First Lady Michelle Obama was a close second with 24 percent of Americans saying she was their favorite. Laura Bush finished at the bottom with just 17 percent.
Divided by political groups, Democrats slightly favored Obama over Clinton by 3 points. Laura Bush beat her mother-in-law by 12 points among Republicans.
Demographically divided, 58 percent of African-Americans favored Obama and 30 percent chose Clinton. Among Latinos, 45 percent preferred Clinton while only 29 percent preferred Obama. Barbara Bush was the favorite of 33 percent of whites, leading Clinton who received 24 percent.
The WSJ/NBC News poll was conducted April 23-27 with 1,000 adults. It has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
