FAIRFIELD, Calif., May 4 (UPI) -- A small biplane crashed Sunday while performing in front of thousands in northern California Sunday afternoon.

Local television network KTVU reports that the pilot was attempting to fly upside-down just above the ground, a trick called "cutting the ribbon," when the crash occurred.

The air show was cancelled shortly after the crash, with attendees asked to leave promptly and roads closed. The pilot is reportedly unaccounted for.
