Following an investigation that began in March, police say Simmons first contacted the alleged victim via the social networking app Grindr. The Delaware attorney general's office was informed upon the investigation's conclusion and quickly approved warrants for the defendant's arrest on Friday.
State Attorney General Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden, who established Delaware's Child Predator Unit has yet to issue a statement about a member of his office preying on an underage boy.
Police suspect that more victims of Simmons will come out as news of his arrest spreads, and urge Delaware parents to monitor their children's social media for any indication of a connection to Simmons.
A statement released friday by attorney general's office confirmed Simmons has been placed on administrative leave. Information about bail is not yet available.
