MILFORD, Conn., May 1 (UPI) -- A line circled around a Connecticut funeral home Thursday as friends, family and community members turned out for the wake of Maren Sanchez, the 16-year-old girl killed at her high school on the day of prom.

Maren died Friday after she was pushed down the stairs at Jonathan Law High School in Milford, Conn., and stabbed by a fellow student.

Witnesses said Chris Plaskon, 16, attacked her after she allegedly turned him down when he asked her to prom that night.

The girl's wake was held Thursday afternoon at Cody-White Funeral Home, where so many people showed up, the line stretched outside the building.

Fellow schoolmates at the wake said it's been hard to understand Maren's death.

“Teachers are doing a lot to make it easier on us but it’s just a little difficult still because it’s still kind of fresh,” freshman Ally Maccio said.

Maren is set to be buried in a private service Friday. Plaskon is scheduled to be arraigned the same day.
