Asst. DA shot in 'domestic incident' critical, estranged husband suspected, commits suicide

ATLANTA, April 25 (UPI) -- Fulton County Assistant District Attorney April McConnell and an unidentified male companion were shot Friday morning.

“We believe both victims that received gunshot wounds were inside a vehicle. The window of the vehicle was shot out. Multiple shots were fired,” said Police Capt. Paul Guerrucci.

McConnell is in critical condition at a local hospital, the male is dead.

McConnell, 31, a graduate of Florida A&M and Emory University Law School, had a promising career and was working on the DA’s biggest case in years, the Atlanta Public Schools cheating case. On Monday, She filed for divorce from her husband, Tranard McConnell.

During a press conference, Capt.Guerrucci confirmed the incident was domestic.

Tranard McConnell was named a suspect in the case.

Shortly thereafter, his body was found in a cemetery on the edge of a pond, dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
