KIEV, Ukraine, April 22 (UPI) -- During his visit to Kiev on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden assured interim authorities that the United States was fully behind them in their efforts to unify Ukraine.
Biden urged interim Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and acting President Oleksandr Turchynov to fight back against the “the cancer of corruption” within the country.
According to Biden, the corruption in Ukraine is "endemic" and the country faces "very daunting problems." He nonetheless offered encouragement for Ukraine's new leaders and said the U.S will help them face "humiliating threats."
"The opportunity to generate a united Ukraine, getting it right is within your grasp,” he told members of parliament.
The VP has other meetings scheduled with different officials and will leave later on Tuesday for Washington.
